A new outlet for me has been using collage to explore spiritual themes. I’ve decided to share some of these pieces here for others to see.
In the colours of Purple, Red, Black and Gold we tell our Easter Story: the washing of feet, the meal, the garden and arrest, the walk to Golgotha, and the mystery of an early morning.
I have been reflecting on the ugliness of Holy Week contrasted with the beauty of Spring. The ugliness of betrayal, or fear, of an unjust arrest and trial, of public flogging and an excruciating death. Easter is all softness and sweetness in North American consumerist culture. But, in the Christian tradition it is blood stained and sour.

[Image shows a chaotic progression of symbols from a goblet, to a footprint, handcuffs and cross superimposed with a lily. The back ground includes images of protest, red and purple, prison-like bars of dark clouds, monopoly money, and a green road leading to the word “RISE”.]
