Safe Space

where is the hidden door in you
cracking open inch by inch
revealing the soft petals of your heart

the alcove of dreams
the wealth of desire
a treasured measure of sunlight

cup it in your hands
this fragile hoping
keep it close to your breast

whisper to it tenderly
rouse it with a curving smile
it is longing to blossom for you

[Image of a gardener kneeling in the grass on a background of diagonal strips of florals. Like doors, an image of a peony sits in two halves on either side of the gardener with the words “Safe” and “space” cut into pieces onto of the flower.]
